A glassblower's bench at night · 夜里的玻璃作坊，一根吹管

Your phone is the blowpipe: hold it pointing away, roll it with your thumb, push it into the furnace and draw it back to the bench. Gather the glass, blow a bubble, keep it turning so it does not sag, and shape it with the jacks, the wet paper, the paddle and the pincers. Roll on colour chips, wind a thread of coloured glass round the piece, comb it into feathers and twist it. Transfer the piece to a punty to open its mouth. The glass behaves like glass: it cools, it stiffens, it cracks if you let it. Four lessons teach every tool; a practice bench lets you try them with glass that never cools; copy classic forms or blow freely.
